Chairman's End of Year Address - 2021

It is with great pleasure that I come to share my thoughts with you on the past year’s challenges and successes. It has been a fascinating year for all of us in SRC. The pandemic has started to subside and some form of normality is settling in. We are increasingly coming back to the office and gradually being able to have face to face meetings with partners and clients. In SRC we truly feel that in-person engagement has its merits and cannot always be compared to digital interactions - especially when we are trying to foster creativity when delivering projects or encourage personal development while mentoring junior staff. To ensure an exciting and vibrant working environment, we have now moved again to a substantially bigger office, still within Canary Wharf, with great amenities and magnificent views of the River Thames and O2 arena. Growth and Development This has been a very successful year both in overall work volume and sector diversity. I am delighted to confirm that the last financial year has been one of the fastest growth years we have seen in SRC’s 19 year history. It is with great honor I am able to say that, just the past year we have recruited over 25 new permanent staff and engaged with circa 20 new associates. In our Engineering & Design Services (EDS) business unit, after a long procurement exercise, we have been able to secure a 5-year contract from the Engineering Framework to service the Capital Delivery Directorate of TfL. This is one of many wins within that Unit. Pat Keegan has been instrumental in securing this contract and therefore I wanted to congratulate and thank him for his efforts. Our Real Estate and Property areas within the Project Delivery Services (PDS) Business Unit has also been growing substantially with new clients and exciting projects nationally. Chiah Lim has been spearheading these efforts and has been exceptionally effective in both business development and recruitment. Operations Following the creation of the PDS and EDS business units last year, the Engineering side of the business which is the largest area of the firm, has continued its positive trajectory. We are pleased to see the Project Management and PMO side of the business flourish in a steeper trajectory than planned, which is a great result. In order to ensure high quality of delivery and consistent offering, in the coming year we will be developing key portfolios within our client accounts. This ensures a single point of accountability for project and contracts – for example, staff such as Phoebe Bassett and Anthony Adamson will be stepping up to Portfolio Leads for APCD and MPD respectively within TfL. I want to personally praise both for their efforts and passion during the past year. Next Year As we have been successful in diversifying the business with regards to service offerings, we need to now implement our diversity and growth strategy into new sectors and clients. Primary activities will include, increasing our focus in expanding further within Real Estate but also infrastructure clients such as Network Rail and Highways England. Last but not least, we need to ensure we continue to attract talented and entrepreneurial individuals. The coming 6-12 months will be very much focused on recruitment. There are a number of vacancies on exciting projects in both the Engineering and Project Management Business Units. Please do get in touch if you want to know more about our projects, our company and our people – I am adamant there is always a role in SRC for curious and ambitious individuals.

All the best, Colin Furbank - Chairman
